During this time, Dr. Caffero-Tolemy spent a year receiving intensive training in neuropsychological assessment and had the opportunity to present her doctoral thesis at the annual conference of the American Psychology-Law Society.

Although Dr. Caffero-Tolemy has spent many years in the classroom, she also has extensive experience in a wide array of therapeutic environments. In addition to working with children and adolescents on the autism spectrum for almost a decade, Dr. Caffero-Tolemy spent significant time working with the chronically mentally ill in both in-patient and out-patient settings. In particular, she spent several years managing a large out-patient substance abuse facility. Drawing extensively on that experience, Dr. Caffero-Tolemy recently began work in a program the offers multi-disciplinary treatment to patients with chronic pain.

Having worked with such a diverse clientele, Dr. Caffero-Tolemy has come to value the importance of creating a positive and trusting therapeutic environment. By approaching clients from an interpersonal therapeutic perspective, her goal is to facilitate the client’s growth in the direction that they choose. Specifically, the therapeutic relationship is used as a magnifying glass to better understand events that occur in everyday life. At the same time, Dr. Caffero-Tolemy is a firm believer in the benefits of techniques including Motivational Interviewing, Dialectal Behavioral Therapy, and empirically-based Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT). In particular, she believes in using CBT to help clients’ develop lifelong tools to address stress, depression, and anxiety.

Dr. Caffero-Tolemy is currently accepting clients with substance abuse issues, as well as those suffering from pain management disorders, depression, anxiety, and bi-polar disorder. She is also sensitive to the needs of adolescents and adults on the autism spectrum and is happy to lend the specialized assistance required by those clients and their families. For clients in need of assessment, Dr. Caffero-Tolemy is fully versed in an array of major tests and is happy to discuss the process in more detail.
